Introduction

Following the successful launch of Indigo Business in February 2026, we received a remarkable number of thoughtful questions from our clients and partners. To make it easier for you to find the information you need, we’ve collected the most common queries and answered them here in a clear, structured FAQ.

We’re excited to share these details with you, and we’re just as excited about the journey ahead.

The Scope of Indigo Business

📖 Tip: If you're interested in the 'here, soon and later's of Indigo Business, this section is for you. Read on to learn how Indigo Business will evolve as we continue to expand how we support our clients.

🔑 Key topics: Planned features, out of scope features, product and service availability, and migrations (from products like SFM).

Will Indigo Business evolve into a full ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) platform, including Indigo People, Inventory and CRM to cover everything larger enterprises need?

Yes. Indigo Business is being developed as part of a broader ERP vision that brings people management, accounting and inventory into a single solution. A CRM module is also part of this longer‑term vision, but it will come after the core accounting and inventory capabilities are complete.

What new features and modules can we expect in Indigo Business in the near-to-medium term?

While we are not committing to specific dates, we can already confirm a number of planned features and modules, as displayed in the table below. These features, as well as others, will be introduced progressively as part of our rolling deployment of Indigo Business.

Features & Modules

Plan

Notes

SEPA Payments

Soon

  • This is one of the earlier planned modules.

Pre‑Transactions: Pro‑Forma, Pre‑Invoice, Purchase Orders

Soon

  • A pre‑transactions module (including Purchase Orders) is planned.

  • You will be able to raise a 'Request for Payment' or 'Pro‑Forma Invoice' as a pre‑invoice, and then convert it to a final invoice that is posted to the ledger (rather than allocate it against a separate invoice).

  • During conversion, the document can be amended (for example, from free‑text to product lines).

Hierarchical Accounts

Soon

  • Similar to what is available in SFM, this module will allow functionalities such as catering for a chart of accounts with more than 3 tiers.

API expansion

Next

  • Expanded API functionality compared to the current systems.

Inventory

Later

  • Over time, Indigo Business will steadily incorporate inventory management and related features as currently offered by SIMS {and beyond?}.

Receipts & Costings (R&C)

Later

  • Modules like this are expected to follow once core inventory elements (stock cards, transaction processing, etc.) are in place.

Fixed Assets Register

Last

  • A detailed approach is under consideration and will be prioritised based on usage.

Projects: Jobs Module & Voyage Ledger

Last

  • The Projects module in Indigo Business will bring back the classic SFM Jobs functionality. It will also include the Voyage Ledger functionalities.

Reporting & Consolidation

Under consideration

  • Reporting (including management accounts, cash‑flow and ratio reporting) will be a core feature.

  • We're aiming to support consolidation needs and may bridge these using BI reporting across companies.

ViDA and other regulatory reporting

Under consideration

  • We will provide compliance with widely deployed reporting requirements, and ViDA reporting is included in these plans.

What requested features do you not plan to include in Indigo Business?

Yes. Based on feedback and questions received so far, there are several areas which we do not plan to implement in Indigo Business, as they are otherwise out of scope at this time. At this stage, there are no plans to add:

  • Automatic accruals across periods

    • Automatic distribution of costs or revenues across multiple periods (for example, automatically calculating and posting accruals when an invoice covers October to March).

    • We have, however, noted people's interest in this feature, so we may change our minds eventually.

  • Automated FX revaluation for assets

    • Automated revaluation of assets based on current FX rates (beyond what already applies to bank accounts).

  • Native cryptocurrency / digital asset accounting

    • Native support for accounting for cryptocurrencies, including automated valuation and specialised audit trails for fintech regulatory compliance.

  • Dedicated investment accounting module

How will Indigo Business be rolled out once it becomes available? Will new clients and existing SFM users get the same offer, or will current SFM users have a planned migration path?

Indigo Business will be available from April 2026 for any new companies you wish to onboard. Meanwhile, migration facilities for existing SFM companies with core modules are planned for 2027.

Will access to SFM be lost once Indigo Business becomes available?

Since you own a licence to SFM you'll retain access to it for as long as you wish, although support from our end may be withdrawn at some point in the future. We will also eventually offer a migration service to Indigo Business, allowing you to move to the new platform while maintaining your full historical data.

How stable and secure are your service operations? We have seen major providers experience outages despite high up-time guarantees. What happens if your cloud service goes down?

We are very proud of our availability track record and take uptime and resilience extremely seriously. Reflecting this, Indigo Business is hosted on Microsoft Azure, which is regarded as one of the leading cloud platforms for availability and resilience.

You can monitor the availability of the different Indigo services over time via our status page.

AI in Indigo Business

💡Top level insight: Indigo Business is being built to take advantage of current and future generations of AI, rather than merely treating it as an add‑on. As AI capabilities mature and smarten up, we will continue to introduce additional, carefully‑curated, AI‑driven features that add real value while remaining fully accountable, as required by a finance-focused accounting environment.

How will Indigo Business use AI now and in the future?

You will see AI embedded across different areas of the product, for example:

  • Bank feeds and reconciliations

    • Assisting with automated allocation during bank reconciliation.

    • Automatically reconciling, identifying and preparing debtor payments and bank charges.

    • Optionally routing these through Drafts first for review and approval.

  • Supplier invoice processing

    • Reading and interpreting supplier invoices received as PDFs or scanned paper documents.

    • Creating draft transactions automatically, ready for validation.

  • Forecasting and planning

    • Supporting cash‑flow forecasting and projections using historical and real‑time data.

  • Natural language interactions (longer term)

    • Allowing users to perform tasks using plain language (for example:
'Raise a sales invoice to XYZ Company dated DD‑MM‑YYYY.').

How do you plan to manage the risk of errors or 'hallucinations' from AI in Indigo Business?

We manage the risk of AI errors by ensuring that humans stay in control of all financial transactions. Indigo Business uses a draft‑then‑post workflow:

  • AI prepares a draft, and your team reviews and adjusts it before anything is posted to the ledger.

  • If an AI suggestion is wrong, it can be corrected or ignored.

  • AI speeds up data entry, but it never posts transactions automatically.

This approach delivers efficiency while maintaining the accuracy, control, and auditability required in a financial solution. As users gain confidence, they can choose to automate specific, low‑risk tasks, such as bank charges during bank feed automation.

General Use Queries

📖 Tip: This section brings together a variety of common questions about Indigo Business and how it works in practice, helping you better understand what Indigo Business will be able to do and how it can fit into your existing workflows.

🔑 Key topics: API integrations, EPOS and invoice processing, approval workflows, document handling, reporting, contact and bank details, system availability, and dates in postings.

Integrations & Connectivity

What is the connection, if any, between Indigo and SharePoint? Is any data stored in or read from SharePoint?

If your infrastructure allows you to access SharePoint and use it to store or read files, you will be able to continue doing so from Indigo Business. Indigo Business can work alongside SharePoint as a document source and destination, depending how your environment is configured.

Will there be API integrations, and will API functions be expanded in the new system?

Yes. Indigo Business is built on a service‑oriented architecture and is fully enabled for API‑based integrations. We expect to expand API capabilities over time so that more functions in Indigo Business can be accessed methodologically.

How will EPOS transactions from retail outlets be handled? Can they be auto‑batched similar to bank statements?

EPOS transactions are posted into a bank account. These bank transactions can then be picked up and posted into Indigo Business, allowing them to be populated into your bank account within Indigo Business through the bank feeds automation.

Invoicing, Approvals & Documents

Does the Accounts Payable process have an approval workflow so that invoices can be directed to the relevant person and only posted once approved?

Yes. This can be achieved using the new Drafts functionality, with authorisation controlled by rules that you define. Invoices can be routed for review and approval in Drafts before being posted to the ledgers.

Are there different types of invoices, like a mix of free‑text invoices and invoices with specific, repetitive text (such as monthly billing)?

Yes. Indigo Business supports free‑text invoicing and also repetitive text through templates. These templates can be scheduled to be issued on a regular basis and can be edited and added to before they are issued.

Can I attach reports or delivery notes to sales and purchase invoices? Can a previously posted invoice be used as a template?

Indigo Business includes an internal document storage system, allowing you to store and associate documents such as reports and delivery notes with your transactions.

In addition, a 'Duplicate transaction' option will be available, enabling you to copy a previously posted invoice and then edit it before posting. This feature is already planned.

Can we store multiple bank account details, like multiple contact details and addresses for clients and suppliers?

Our current understanding is that this question refers to storing multiple client bank accounts. In Indigo Business you can create an unlimited number of your own bank accounts and link a client to one of these, so that your bank details are printed on outbound invoices.

If the requirement is instead to store multiple customer or supplier bank accounts (for example, to pay them into different accounts), we would need to clarify the use cases further.

Reporting & Dates

Will there be better output reports that can be easily presented in board meetings, without first editing them in Excel, especially for small businesses or teams?

Yes. Reporting in Indigo Business will be customisable so that you can produce outputs that are suitable for board‑level presentation. In addition, tools such as Microsoft Power BI or other business intelligence solutions can be used alongside Indigo Business to create your own tailored reports and dashboards.

Can a posting have two dates, like an invoice date and a posting date, so that reports can be issued accordingly?

The posting date is created automatically and is referred to as 'Created on' throughout the system; it cannot be amended. We are considering additional reporting options around date handling in future. In the meantime, the 'Created on' date can already be used as a filter within the audit trail.

Where did the names 'Shireburn' and 'Indigo' come from?

The name Shireburn is linked to the place where our founder was based before the company was established. The name Indigo was chosen through a collaborative brand‑creation process that involved many of our team members.
