What is ESG?

ESG stands for Environmental, Social and corporate Governance, and refers to measures organisations take towards maintaining and improving their social responsibility, and safeguarding against corruption.

ESG reporting then displays the results of a company's ESG efforts. This is a great way to prove that you're not just paying lip-service when you talk about improving your business's employment culture, but also practicing what you preach.

About the ESG dashboard

The ESG dashboard in Indigo's People Insights module helps you focus on the social aspect of your ESG reporting. By gathering all the pertinent data from across your company, condensing it into clear statistics and presenting them in easy-to-understand visuals, our dashboard helps you simplify your ESG reporting efforts while saving precious time. โŒš

Accessing the ESG dashboard

The ESG dashboard is available to all tenants with an active Premium Insights subscription or Indigo HR Advantage package. Admin users automatically have this switched on, and can assign permission to other users in the company as needed using the ESGInsights permission.

You can filter by company in the Selected Companies dropdown at the top of the dashboard. From the date pickers to the left of this, you can set the Reporting Period you'd like to view.

Undertaking Employees

The main section of the dashboard shows employee data for your undertaking. To the immediate right of the title, you'll find the Matrix Format icon that switches on the matrix table view in the second part of the dashboard. On the far right of Undertaking Employees, just above the last chart, you'll see a blue box with your company's average total headcount for the selected date range. There's a list of tabs on the left from which you can choose the employee type for the data you'd like to view. The default selection is set to Headcount.

All available employee type tabs are based on the Work Schedule Profile, as follows:

  • Headcount

  • Subcontractors

  • Fulltimers

  • Non Fulltimers

  • Temporary Employees (employees with a contract expiry or termination date)

  • Permanent Employees (employees without a contract expiry OR with a contract expiry but no termination date)

  • Casual Employees (flexible employees)

There are three doughnut charts to the right of the tab list that display your selection's data in percentages:

  • by Nationality (default selection; see below for instructions on changing this category)

  • by Age Bracket

  • by Gender

Change the category shown in the first chart by clicking on the filter icon in the top right corner. This will open two dropdowns above the chart: the first is a list of available categories, while the second lets you pick from all the entries within the category.

๐Ÿ—’๏ธNote: the filter settings in the first Headcount chart affect all other visuals on the dashboard.

Below the Undertaking Employees section are two other doughnut charts for Employee Turnover and Gender Pay.

Employee Turnover

Take a look at your business's average Turnover Rate for the selected period in the top right corner of this chart. The different types of terminations are listed in a horizontal bar format, with the termination type written on the left and the corresponding number on the right of the bar.

Gender Pay

In this chart, you can view the gender pay gap for the specified date range in the top right corner as a percentage. When the figure is positive, the gap is in favour of male employees; when the figure is negative, the gap is in favour of female employees. The male and female average gross salaries are shown in horizontal bars, along with the total number of employees in either field.

Gender Pay Formula

We've worked out the gender pay gap by deducting the average female gross hourly pay from the average male gross hourly pay, dividing the result by the average male gross hourly pay, and then turning it into a percentage.

This can be written as:

100 [ (Avg. male gross/hr - Avg. female gross/hr) รท Avg. male gross/hr ]

= Gender Pay Gap %

Note: As gender pay gap is based on identifying differences based on male and female gender, any employees listed as non-binary, other, or unspecified, in the gender field of their profile are not included in the calculation.

The Gender Pay Gap is calculated as outlined in Disclosure Requirement S1-16 Remuneration metrics, Paragraph 97 (a) within the ESRS S1 Delegated Act 2023.

The Matrix Format View

ESG reporting makes heavy use of tables, so we've made sure you can switch to a matrix view easily when using this dashboard. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  1. To access the matrix format, click the table icon to the right of the Undertaking Employees header.

  2. The lower section of the dashboard will change from two charts to a data grid and a list of tabs tied to the grid's rows.
    โ€‹

  3. To return to the default view of the Employee Turnover and Gender Pay charts, click 'Close Matrix Table' at the bottom of the Rows box.
    โ€‹

The default selected row is the Age Bracket. You can unselect it and choose another tab to change the rows in the grid.

You can also select multiple criteria from the Rows box. When the grid updates in response to your selection, the first column will become expandable via a newly loaded + button per entry. Click on the + button to open an entry's next level of data in the grid.
