Introduction

Managing data is a regular part of everyday work, but it becomes much more effective when you can move that information in and out of your system with confidence. This is where the Import and Export features play an important role in Indigo Business.

  • Exporting allows you to extract data for reporting, analysis or adjustments carried out outside the platform.

  • Importing works the other way, letting you bring in new records or update existing ones in bulk.

Together, these features reduce manual effort, increase efficiency and help ensure that the data behind key decisions is complete and reliable.

Keep reading to learn more about the single processes. πŸ‘‡

About Exporting Data

You can export data to Excel from any grid that supports exporting using the designated button at the top left of the grid.

Just filter your grids to pinpoint the data you need to export and proceed with the exporting process, which will download the data in an Excel file. You can now modify such data for future imports or simply use it for other internal purposes.

However, if preparing new data for import is what you need instead, you can export an empty template file, which will help you prepare exactly the information required for a successful import.

About Importing Data

You can import data from any grid that supports importing or from the Drafts screen using the Excel files (CSV or XLSX) we mentioned earlier.

You can use the importing process for two main purposes:

The import result changes though, depending on from where you start the process.

  • From the grids, the records will be fully imported in the system.

  • From the Drafts screen, the records will be imported as drafts waiting to be reviewed and officially uploaded in the relevant grid or ledger.

Importing records as drafts will allow you to have more control over what is imported in the system, breaking down the process according to the users' role in your company. Learn more about drafts πŸ‘‰ here.
