Are you already well-versed in the use of templates and their specific role within Performance Management? Build an outstanding template with help from:

What are Templates?

The Templates feature lets you create reusable, goal-oriented appraisals by penning your own questions or selecting them from the Question Bank or existing templates.

As outlined in the introductory article to the Performance Management module, the first of the three steps to conducting the performance review process is Template creation.

Templates can be prepared in advance and then edited as needed. Once created, they can be used indefinitely by reviewers until they are manually deactivated or deleted in the Templates screen. Reviewers can pick the desired template to initiate an Ad Hoc performance review for their team or selected employees.

Reviewers are those employees in the company that have been granted the required permissions to start Ad Hoc performance reviews and track their progress. Reviewers are often team managers and HR admins, but this is at the company's discretion.

The Templates screen

Throughout the template creation process, you will mostly be interacting with three screens. The Templates screen is the first you will come across when clicking on Templates in the left side of the screen. It will present you with a list of templates you have created.

From here, you can:

  • edit an existing template by clicking on it;

  • delete a template by clicking Delete Template (red🗑️icon), followed by Confirm;

  • disable a template from being used for a review by clicking Disable Template (green circle icon), followed by Confirm;

    • You can click the button again to reenable a disabled template.

  • begin creating a new template by clicking Create Template.

The New Template screen

Select Create Template to navigate to the New Template screen. Here, choose one of three methods to start crafting your template:

  1. use pre-written questions from the Question Bank;

  2. duplicate an existing template and edit the copy;

  3. compose your own questions.

Selecting any of the three methods or editing an existing template will lead you to the Create screen, where you’ll find the Template Builder.

The Create screen / Template Builder

Selecting any of the three methods or editing an existing template will lead you to the Create screen, where you’ll find the Template Builder.

Naming and renaming templates take place in the Template Builder.

As you start adding questions to the template, you will see your template begin to take shape within the Template Builder.
