Introduction

In this article we'll be covering how to post a manual journal entry in your nominal ledger using Indigo Business.

πŸ€” Remember: A journal entry must include at least two lines using the double-entry method, meaning one debit and one credit to one or more accounts. These amounts must offset each other. If the credits do not offset the debits, the system will not post the journal.

Creating a Nominal Journal Entry

  1. Go to Nominal > Posting > Nominal Journal.

  2. The Nominal Journal page will open.

  3. Fill in at least the mandatory fields (*) and the optional ones, if needed.

    • Check the mandatory fields description here.

    • Check the optional fields description here.

  4. Select Add line item.

  5. Repeat step 4 to add as many line items as needed. The added line items will appear in the relevant grid.

  6. Review the line items and totals.

    • If changes are needed, follow the steps explained ➑️ here.

    • Check the totals description ➑️ here.

  7. Select Post at the bottom right corner.

  8. Select Post in the confirmation pop-up.

If the auto balancing setting is enabled, a different posting confirmation pop-up is displayed. More on this topic πŸ‘‰ here.

The Result

  • The posted journal will be visible in Nominal > Audit Trail.

  • A unique Tran ID is assigned to the transactions involved. The Tran ID follows a specific grouping logic you can explore πŸ‘‰ here.

❓ FAQ: Can I duplicate a posted transaction to handle recurring events faster? Yes, you can. Find out how ➑️ here.
