Why Scorecards?

Navigating through a sea of resumes can feel like charting a course through endless oceans, each candidate offering a unique mashup of skills and expertise. How can you evaluate a dozen applicants fairly and efficiently, without losing focus or feeling like tearing your hair out in frustration? 😵

Enter the Scorecard, Indigo Hiring's plotted map 🗺️ for guiding you towards the essential skills you seek in your new crewmates. This feature offers full customisation, resembling ye olde grading sheet. 📋 It lists desired skills and allows you to grade each applicant based on their CV and performance during interviews or technical tests.

Once you and your team fill in the scorecard for your perfect matches and beyond, you'll have a comprehensive overview of all your applications—a grid that swiftly identifies the top talent vying for a spot on your crew .


Scorecards in Indigo Hiring

In Indigo Hiring, Scorecards are initially configured for each job posting. Once the job is posted and applications begin to flow in, members of the recruitment team can each fill out the Scorecard for individual candidates through the dedicated application screens.

Setup

Setting up a scorecard is a matter of listing the specific skills and attributes that are crucial for the job being posted. This ensures that you clearly define the criteria you are looking for in potential hires, enabling a structured and consistent evaluation process.

Scorecards are set up as a Hiring Preference in Indigo Hiring. When configured this way, all future jobs published by your company will automatically use the default scorecard structure specified in this Hiring Preference.

Different jobs require different skills, which means varying scorecard setups are essential. You have two options for managing this:

  1. Change the Scorecard Hiring Preference before posting each job: This method involves manually adjusting the scorecard to fit the specific requirements of each job. While effective, it can be time-consuming.

  2. Strategic long-term setup: A more efficient approach in the long run involves setting up a general scorecard in the Hiring Preference with universal skills such as Punctuality, People Skills, Soft Skills, and Problem Solving. When posting a job, you can then modify this base scorecard to include the specific skills needed for that role.

Important Consideration:

Ensure that the scorecard is fully customised for the job immediately when the job posting goes live. This is crucial because the applications that you will receive will have the scorecard as it is configured at the time of the application's submission.

However, mistakes happen, and if an application has the wrong version of a scorecard, there's no need to panic. Your team has the ability to manually resubmit applications once the scorecard for the job is corrected.


Grading

Scorecards are an Applications thing, so that is where you will find them. 😉

  1. Access the application you need to grade by clicking on it from either the All Applications grid or a specific job's Applications tab.

  2. Locate and click the Scorecard tab in the centre-right of the screen.

  3. Start filling it out by clicking Fill Out Scorecard.

  4. Evaluate the applicant on each listed skill, rating them from Very Bad to Very Good based on the pre-configured scorecard. You can leave comments on any skill ratings to provide additional context by clicking Add comment and filling in the field.

  5. At the bottom, choose whether to select Yes, I recommend or No, I do not recommend. Optionally, leave an explanation for your final decision for your team to consider in the provided field.

  6. Click Submit Scorecard to finalise your ratings or Cancel to discard the scorecard.

Aftermath... What happens next?

After you submit your scoring, it will influence Indigo Hiring's internal calculation of the Average applicant score.

The Scorecard tab will feature the latest score, as affected by the overall averaging of rated scorecards. The score will be visualised by a coloured bar.

At the top, you can see which members of your team have recommended an applicant. You can also view how individual team members graded and commented on each skill by opening the corresponding collapsible section.

Besides the Scorecard tab (located in the centre-right section of the individual application page), the updated score will be reflected in several locations, including the Scorecard column in the All Applications grid.

Editing an Applicant's Scorecard

Leaving a Scorecard ranking on an applicant is not final. You may reconsider your decision for any reason, such as after meeting the applicant a second or third time.

In such an instance, you can click the Edit Scorecard button, which will have replaced the Fill Out Scorecard button. The process from there is the same as described above.
